Every website or blog has a name. A domain name to be precise. This site’s domain name is ‘howtogetmoneyonline.com’
I like this name. It tells you exactly where you are going and what you are likely to encounter when you get there. It is simple and to the point. I don’t beat about the bush with these things.
I had the option to name this site after myself: ugookonkwo.com. Now that’s all very well and good but who the hell is ugo okonkwo?? I could have named this site ugookonkwo.com but who the hell would click on that link?
Let me put it another way:
Anyone who clicks on a link called ‘howtogetmoneyonline’ is clearly interested in only one thing: How to get money!
So I know for a fact that 99.9% of all readers who come to this site are seriously interested in only one thing: money. So they are highly targeted. More targeted than all the random various people who would have clicked through to a site named after me personally.
I like my site’s name. That’s why I paid for it to be registered to me for 9 years at Go Daddy! So you have to wait for 9 years if you want to try and have it.
Be careful when you chose your domain name. However, if you’re into Branding and both you and your name want to become famous but not necessarily rich, name your site after yourself.
I always get surprised and raise an eyebrow when I click through to a site named after the owner, expecting to learn more about him / her and then suddenly, I see a ‘make money’ menu item / link.
I suddenly think Huh?!? Why is that link there? Are they some sort of expert? I thought this site was all about them and their interests and latest activities etc etc …not about making money. So alarm bells start going off…
But if the link to the site said ‘make money online’ blah blah, I would know exactly what to expect on the other side of the click – no surprises and no alarm bells.
So go ahead and choose your domain name for your Blog. Choose carefully and choose appropriately. Have a clear aim in mind.
Let me know what you think. Have you already chosen a domain name? Was it your own personal name? Are you Branding? Was it a niche or product name? Tell me.
What did you do?
